Who we prepare returns for

Simple returns, and the ones that are not.

Employees

W-2 income, bonuses, RSUs, stock options and ESPP shares.

Self-employed

1099 contractors and sole proprietors filing Schedule C.

Landlords

Rental property, including out-of-state rentals.

Investors

Brokerage sales, crypto transactions and K-1s from Partnerships and S Corporations.

Retirees

Pensions, IRA distributions and Social Security.

Multi-state filers

Anyone who lived or worked in more than one state during the year.

Multi-state

New Jersey and New York returns, prepared together.

Live in New Jersey and work in New York, and you file in both. New Jersey gives you a credit for the tax you paid to New York, and getting that credit right is where most of the money is. We do the same for Pennsylvania, Florida moves and part-year residents. Commuter returns are a big part of our Bergen County tax preparation work.

What you get

More than a filed return.

Every return you owe

Federal Form 1040 and each state return, e-filed.

A look back

Last year's return reviewed for missed deductions and credits.

Next year's estimates

Estimated taxes calculated for next year. The payments can be scheduled automatically when your return is filed.

Year-round answers

When a notice arrives or your situation changes.

How it works

From documents to filed, without a trip to the office.

01

Your organizer

Returning clients get an organizer in the client portal built from last year's return, so you only answer what changed.

02

Upload or drop off

Upload from your phone or computer, or leave paper in the secure, locked drop-off box in Oakland. We scan it into your portal.

03

Prepared and checked

Your return is prepared and every figure is tied back to your source documents before it goes to review.

04

One list of questions

If something is missing or unclear, you get one short list in the portal, not a stream of emails.

05

CPA review

A CPA reviews the return line by line, including last year's, and signs it.

06

E-sign and e-file

Review the draft, sign from your phone, and we e-file federal and every state. Next year's estimates can be scheduled at the same time.

Situations we handle every season

The parts of a return that take experience.

New Jersey residents working in New York

You file a New York nonresident return (IT-203) and a New Jersey resident return, and New Jersey credits the New York tax. We check how many days you actually worked in New York, because New York's convenience rule can treat work-from-home days for a New York employer as New York days.

Moved during the year

A move means part-year returns in both states, with income split by date. We do it every year for clients moving to Florida, the Carolinas and Pennsylvania, and many keep us after they move.

RSUs, stock options and ESPP shares

Stock pay is taxed as wages, and the 1099-B often shows too low a cost basis. We fix the basis so the same income is not taxed twice. Read our RSU and stock options guide.

Rental properties

Depreciation, repairs versus improvements, passive loss limits, and New Jersey's rule that a rental loss cannot offset wages. Use our rental property checklist.

A side business or 1099 work

Schedule C with every deduction you are owed, plus a look at whether an S Corporation election would save you money. Use our Schedule C checklist.

K-1s from Partnerships and S Corporations

Multi-state K-1s, New Jersey BAIT credits and New York PTET credits, carried to the right line of each state return.

Crypto and brokerage accounts

Every sale reconciled to the 1099-B, including the new Form 1099-DA brokers issue for digital asset sales starting with 2025.

Retirees

Pensions, IRA withdrawals and required distributions, with New Jersey's pension exclusion applied when you qualify. Social Security is not taxed in New Jersey. See how New Jersey differs from federal.

Prior years and amended returns

Missed a deduction, received a corrected 1099 or never filed? We prepare amended and late returns for any year the IRS or New Jersey still has open.

Good to know

Deadlines, fees and who is responsible.

Late documents and extensions

A K-1 that arrives in September or a corrected brokerage form should not mean a rushed or wrong return. When something is still missing in April, we file federal and state extensions by April 15 and move the deadline to October 15. An extension gives more time to file, not to pay, so we estimate what you will owe and pay it with the extension to keep penalties and interest off the bill.

How fees work

Your fee is based on the forms and schedules your return needs, not an hourly rate, so there is no meter running while we prepare it.

Who signs your return

Every return is reviewed and signed by a CPA. If the IRS or New Jersey sends a letter about a return we prepared, send it to us and we will tell you what it means and what to do.

Common questions

Before you book.

What documents do I need to send?

Last year's return, your W-2s and 1099s, mortgage interest and property tax statements, brokerage statements and any K-1s. We send a checklist built from your prior-year return.

Is everything done online?

Yes. Everything is done through the client portal and e-signature. If you prefer paper, there is a secure, locked drop-off box in Oakland, NJ, and we scan what you leave into your portal.

Can you fix a prior-year return?

Yes. We prepare amended federal and state returns and returns for years that were never filed.

What does the free consultation cover?

It is a short call, about 10 minutes, to hear what you need, answer questions about how we work and confirm we are a fit. Reviewing documents and tax advice start once you are a client, and a review of last year's return is part of every return we prepare.

Are you accepting new clients?

Yes, throughout the year. During our busiest months, January through April, we may stop taking new clients because of demand, so the earlier you reach out, the better. If we are not taking new clients, a banner at the top of this site will say so. Call first, 201-954-1260.

I live in New Jersey and work in New York. Do I file two returns?

Yes. You file a New York nonresident return (IT-203) and a New Jersey resident return. New Jersey gives you a credit for the tax you paid to New York on the same wages, so you are not taxed twice on most of it.

I moved out of New Jersey. Can you still prepare my returns?

Yes. Everything is done through the client portal and e-signature, and many of our clients have moved to other states and kept us.

What if a document arrives after I sent everything?

Send it as soon as it arrives. If the return has not been filed, we include it. If it has, we tell you whether an amended return is needed.

Will you file an extension if I am missing a K-1?

Yes. We file federal and state extensions by April 15 and estimate any tax due so it can be paid with the extension.

How is the fee set?

By the forms and schedules your return needs, not by the hour.

Ready to hand off this year's return?
