What we flagged this month

  1. Revenue up 5.9% on last month, and cost of sales rose only 2.9%, so gross margin improved to 60.4%.
  2. A one-time $1,150 legal bill is in professional fees. Without it, expenses were essentially flat.
  3. Two open items: one $3,150 deposit to identify and one receipt we need for the year-end file.

Why a CPA firm for bookkeeping

Problems get fixed in the month they happen.

The same firm that keeps the books prepares the business return and the owners' returns. Year-end close becomes a short review, not a rebuild.

  • Caught in the monthA personal expense in the business account
  • Caught in the monthA loan that was never recorded
  • Ready at year endNumbers that go straight onto the return

How onboarding works

From first call to your first close.

01

Free consultation

We look at your accounts, your monthly volume and how far behind the books are, if at all.

02

Package confirmed

We confirm the package that fits your accounts and monthly volume before we start.

03

Catch-up, if needed

Missing months are quoted at a flat price per month of statements and completed first.

04

Statements each month

Send your statements by the 5th through the client portal. Most banks can email them automatically.

05

Closed by the 15th

Reconciled books, your profit and loss and balance sheet, and one short list of open items, if there are any.

Reconciled, not just categorized

What separates books you can file from books that need a rebuild.

Plenty of bookkeeping services categorize transactions. Fewer reconcile them. Reconciling means every bank, credit card and loan account is matched to its statement each month, so the ending balance in your books is the ending balance on the statement. It is the only way to catch the deposit that was recorded twice, the loan payment that was booked as an expense, or the personal charge on the business card.

  • Every account matched to its statement, every month
  • Loan payments split between principal and interest
  • Owner draws and contributions recorded as equity, not expenses
  • Sales tax booked as a liability and tied to the return that was filed
  • A balance sheet that ties out, not just a profit and loss

Common questions

Questions about the packages.

What does it cost?

Packages start at $350 a month. The package is set by your monthly transaction volume and the number of accounts, and we confirm it before we start.

Do I need QuickBooks or other bookkeeping software?

No. We keep your books in our system, so there is no software subscription to pay. You get your profit and loss and balance sheet every month, and a full copy of your records whenever you ask.

What counts as a transaction?

Each line on your bank, credit card and loan statements: a deposit, a payment or a transfer.

What do you need from me each month?

Your monthly statements for every business account: bank accounts, credit cards, loan accounts and the like. If anything needs clarifying, we send you one short list of open items.

Do you file sales tax returns?

Yes, in the Business and Growth packages. We book sales tax each month and file your New Jersey and New York returns, monthly or quarterly.

Can you prepare my business and personal returns too?

Yes. Add them to any package and they are billed monthly with it, so there is no separate invoice in April.

How do you handle payroll?

We work with all payroll providers to obtain the reports needed to keep your books up to date. Need a provider? As a client, we can refer you to a payroll provider with preferred pricing.

Can I switch from my current bookkeeper mid-year?

Yes. We start from the last month your books were reconciled, catch up anything after that, and move you to a monthly package.

What happens at year end?

Your December close doubles as the year-end package for your tax return. If we prepare your returns, it goes straight onto them.

Is my financial information secure?

Statements and reports move through the secure client portal, not email.
